Alex Lyczkowski

CUB SCOUT LEADER

I first joined 92nd Birmingham, St Marys as a Scout and left as an Assistant Scout Leader.

Having moved away from Birmingham I went to study Geography at Goldsmiths College, part of the University of London.  During the 3 years of study we visited many glamorous locations as part of our field studies: Bournemouth, Gower, Malvern and a field near Newhaven.

Cycling has been my main outdoor activity for many years.  Whilst at college with my best mates I cycled across the South coast of England.

It was while I was at Goldsmiths that I met Sue, my wife.  We decided to move to Banbury, which was mid-way between our parents, and we’ve stayed here since.  A short time after moving to Banbury I became ASL at 1st Grimsbury.  But in 1995 I started an MSc in Transport Engineering, more glamorous locations such as Dunkerque, and a Rail Depot in Amiens were visited! But I decided to give Scouting a break until the beginning of 2007 when returned to 1st Grimsbury as a Cub Scout Leader.

During the 90s my cycling exploits continued with an interest in cycling up mountain passes very, very slowly and then coming back down them very quickly. As well as doing lots of long distance rides including 100 miles in under 5 hours.

It was also during the 90s that I also discovered skiing and have been lucky enough to ski in lots of lovely places since. The love of skiing has now been passed on to my two sons, my fault really, as sometimes I have a job keeping up with them on the ski slope!

A love for the mountains has meant that the family also returns to higher altitudes during the Summer

An exasperated caller to Dell Computer Tech Support couldn't get her new Dell Computer to turn on. The "foot pedal" turned out to be the computer's mouse.
